Experimental and Simulation Investigation of Micro- and Nano-Structured Neutron Detectors

We are investigating different micro- and nano-structure approaches to neutron detection based on inorganic scintillators. Specifically, we have been assessing various converter-scintillator configurations through simulations experiments. One promising scintillator is ZnO due its relatively high light yield [1] , reasonable optical transparency in the visible region [2] low refractive index [3] compared other Zn-based crystals such as ZnS [4] . Accurate data rigid simulation tools necessary optimize dimensions of converter/scintillator systems. since parameters a material depend variety factors, including but not limited morphology, crystal structure, surface quality (surface roughness), well temperature at which it was manufactured. Therefore, literature show significant discrepancy when comes for important accurately measure these quantities specific sample interest. Neutron complex process that includes transport, charged particle transport active medium. Hence, tool required handle all areas physics with sufficient accuracy. In this work, Geant4 has chosen carry out processes. (GEometry ANd Tracking) toolkit used applications energy physics, astrophysics, radiation [5] The capabilities validated by comparing transmission reflection from UV-Vis spectroscopy models crystals. After validating response single crystals, were constructed model more structures ZnS-based alpha sheets (EJ-440) Eljen Technology. Optical experimental results Geant4. This study will serve basis our ongoing effort manufacture an efficient compact fast module microand nano-structures.
